THE GEORGE FUND
The George Fund provides funding for emergency pulls off death row. Moneys will be used to provide vetting, boarding if fosters cannot be found, and transport for special animals in immediate danger of being euthanized.

The George Fund was named in honor of our President's father, George, a caring and wonderful man pictured here with his Chihuahua/Pug mix, April. April was surrendered to a high kill shelter in Georgia after her family moved. There the rescue chain began – the interim shelter director knew she would die there if he did not get her out, she was terrified and did not show well. Calls were made, and plans were laid. A volunteer would pull her out and get her into the arms of The Pixel Fund. She went North to Maine with no distinct adoption plan and after several months in foster care, there was little interest. At this time, Janet's elderly father, George, was quickly succumbing to diabetes. At 87, he was just waiting to die and rarely left his chair to get exercise needed to keep the effects of diabetes at bay.  His children believed that a companion animal might give him the spark to live, although throughout his life he had never been known to be an animal lover. A plan was hatched to give him April as an 87th birthday gift. The gift was delivered to unwelcome arms, and the children were gruffly told to take "it" away. A deal was struck for April to remain there for just a few weeks as a “foster”  in the care of George’s wife, as he refused to have anything to do with the dog. April had other plans and set about winning George’s heart. Within a week, George called his daughter in tears explaining how April had changed his life and his heart, and thanking her for seeing his need for the companionship only April could give. For the next two years, George played daily with April, woke early to make her a special oatmeal and have breakfast together, then would walk around the yard. Their favorite past time was for George to throw sticks and April to bring them back to his feet. The Pixel Fund saved April’s life, and April saved George.

On the eve of George's passing, the Pixel Fund posted an urgent plea to save the life of a Great Dane mix in a Georgia named George. Through a twist of fate, a dog that had once been rescued was now facing death yet again. With our foster network completely exhausted, we plead that someone open their hearts and homes to take George in. The friends of Pixel stepped up. George left the shelter in the arms of the Pixel Fund within hours of his scheduled long walk the same day April's George made his journey to heaven. The George Fund was founded on that very day - two Georges making their mark on the hearts and minds of the Pixel community, and saving lives in return.
